Born in Ukraine and abandoned at birth due to a hydrocephalus diagnosis, Dima Kalekinās early life was marked by struggle. Left in an orphanage for disabled children, Dima defied the odds, surviving despite limited resources and a war-torn environment.
When conflict erupted in 2014, Dima and other children in his orphanage faced unimaginable hardships, moving from place to place without basic necessities. Their plight eventually caught the attention of a compassionate priest who prayed for the children to find homes.
Those prayers were answered when Ernest and Ruth Chaves from Vermont, USA, learned of Dimaās story. Already experienced parents of seven adopted children, the Chaves family knew they could give him the love and support he desperately needed.
After a swift adoption process, Dima was welcomed into his new family and given a fresh start with a new name: Zebadiah. The transformation was remarkableāhe learned to walk, talk, and even eat with a spoon. His progress amazed doctors, who confirmed his potential for normal development.
Today, Zebadiah is thriving in Vermont, a testament to resilience, love, and second chances. His story inspires hope and reminds us of the extraordinary power of compassion.
