Garth Brooks moved to tears by Kelly Clarkson’s ‘The Dance’ cover

Kelly Clarkson has the ability to transform any song into an unforgettable moment, and her rendition of Garth Brooks’ legendary ballad “The Dance” – his “favorite song” – left the country singer clearly moved. Garth Brooks has given several spectacular performances throughout his career, but at the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors, it was his turn to be the recipient of a magnificent homage.

The 63-year-old famous vocalist, one of country music’s most celebrated singers, was genuinely moved as fellow music giants such as Kelly Clarkson, James Taylor, Jimmie Allen, and Gladys Knight paid tribute to his legacy and remarkable career. The music genres include country, rock, gospel, and honky-tonk. “And then there’s Garth Brooks,” said actor Bradley Cooper, who opened the tribute portion. ”

Garth is a power hitter who swung for the fences and shattered the barriers between music genres, forever expanding the vocabulary of country music and changing American culture.” His ‘favorite tune’ Clarkson, 42, was the first to take the stage, performing an emotive, powerful rendition of Brook’s chart-topping 1990 ballad “The Dance,” which he admitted is his “favorite song.”

“There is a song that you look forward to all night, such as ‘The Dance.’ “I could play it four or five times a night and be fine with it,” Brooks stated in a 1994 interview. “‘The Dance’ will be our most successful tune ever. I’ll go to my grave with ‘The Dance.’ “It’ll probably be my favorite song forever,” he said of the ballad about love, sorrow, and the bittersweet beauty of life’s fleeting moments.

Hat comes off. When the American Idol winner did the version on stage, he most likely enjoyed the song a little more. Clarkson, known for her powerful vocals and ability to revitalize classic songs, performed an intimate yet exciting performance. The moment the Grammy winner began singing, the audience went silent, mesmerized by her deep performance.

Clarkson’s voice, accompanied solely by a piano, soared and echoed across the audience with real emotion. The audience was enthralled as she sang each song with heart and soul, but Brooks was the most impacted. The country icon, seated in the audience with his wife, Trisha Yearwood, was spotted clutching the medallion he received that night and wiping away tears from his eyes.

As Clarkson’s voice reached its height, Brooks came to his feet and, in a show of sincere thanks, removed his hat – a traditional sign of respect in country music – and placed a hand over his lips, evidently moved by the touching performance. ‘Flawless’ Fans soon took to social media to share their enthusiasm for Clarkson’s electrifying yet intimate performance.

“Absolutely flawless performance.” Garth appears to be really proud. Kelly, you are an incredible artist,” one netizen writes in the comments section of the Kennedy Center Honors video, which was uploaded on Facebook. “Great job singing that song. Garth was clearly emotional. [You are] fantastic!” shares the second. A third wrote, “Garth’s reaction made me cry,” while another said, “I liked Kelly’s version much better.” Kelly Clarkson’s rendition of “The Dance” was more than just a performance; it was a work of pure musical beauty.
