Dick Van Dyke is proving that love knows no age limit. At 99, the legendary actor recently shared what makes his 13-year marriage to 53-year-old wife Arlene Silver work so well — and why it still surprises people.
“Everyone said it wouldn’t last,” Van Dyke told *People*, while Arlene added, “It’s kind of eerie how well we get along. Even couples the same age don’t always last.”
The two first met backstage at an awards show, and Van Dyke remembers being instantly drawn to her. “I never used to talk to strangers, but something about her made me say hello,” he recalled.
Arlene says she didn’t know all of his work at the time but recognized his warmth and charm right away.
They enjoy a quiet life at home in Malibu and often say their favorite date nights are just relaxing at the house they love. Despite being nearly 100, Van Dyke says Arlene keeps him feeling young.
“She makes me feel like I can do anything,” he said. “And she takes care of me like no one else.”
The couple tied the knot in 2012 and continue to support each other through everything. For them, age is just a number — love and laughter keep their bond strong.
