13-Year-Old Solomia Brings Judge To Tears With Angelic Voice On “Time To Say Goodbye”

13-year-old Solomia sang with the voice of an angel on The Voice Germany, bringing a judge to tears on her moving audition of Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye”. The young singer looks like any regular teen girl, but when she sings a stunningly full and mature voice comes out.

Not many people can do justice to an Andrea Bocelli classic, but Solomia did it without missing a beat, bringing out the emotion of the song with her passionate performance. Judge Lena Meyer-Landrut was brought to tears with the power of her voice and struggled to compose herself, along with numerous crowd members. See the performance for yourself below.

Solomia Lukyanets is from Ukraine and competed on The Voice Kids Germany. Her choice of “Time to Say Goodbye” was a brave one, as the song is tremendously demanding to sing, especially when it’s inevitably going to be compared to the original version by the legendary Andrea Bocelli.

Judges Meyer-Landrut and Johannes Strate turned their chairs before Solomia even finished singing her opening line. By the time of the iconic chorus, even judge Mark Forster was convinced and turned his chair as well. The singer was composed throughout the performance, but once she finished she let out her emotions with a clearly shocked “my god!”, as the audience gave a thunderous applause. You can watch Solomia sing Evanescence’s “Bring Me To Life” later in the series in the video below.

In the Evanescence performance Solomia sings as part of a trio, and she really showcases how mature her voice is when you can hear her sing back-to-back with the other young contenders. The tinge of classical that original singer Amy Lee added to the soft sections of “Bring Me To Life” is also a perfect fit for Solomia, who has mastered her craft in that area despite her young age.

Despite her talents, Solomia was eliminated in the battle round of The Voice Germany. She has continued working in music since her appearance on The Voice, and she is now studying opera in Berlin and working as a soprano in the classical world. She documents her performances via her YouTube channel and Instagram.
“Time to Say Goodbye” was an inspired choice by Solomia to showcase her voice at her audition. The tune was initially written as an Italian language song titled “Con te partirò”, which translates as “With You I Shall Depart”. It was penned by Francesco Sartori (music) and Lucio Quarantotto (lyrics), and was first performed live and recorded by Andrea Bocelli.

Bocelli’s recording was included as the first track on his second album Bocelli. The song went to number one in France and Belgium and broke sales records in both countries. Bocelli later recorded the song partially in English, which was released as “Time to Say Goodbye”. This version was presented as a duet with British soprano Sarah Brightman and it achieved even greater commercial success than the original. The duet went to number one in four European countries, including Germany, where it became the highest selling single ever.
